Now that the cards have started rolling out, the questions have started rolling in.
We purposefully don't have a list of definitions to go with our list of prompts since we want the prompts to be open to interpretation. People can be so creative in how they interpret things and we want to encourage that.
However, if you find yourself looking at a square and have no idea what it means/what to do with it, we can let you know what the original intent was behind that prompt.
You can also check out the resource post from last year (LJ|DW) or this post over at Livejournal.
As a reminder, the "wild card" square isn't a free square, it's one where you get to pick whichever prompt you want (and don't be alarmed if it shows up on your card twice, that's by design).
Also, you can start posting podfics for your cards right away.

This square was designed for using pauses and silence for effect. Like, leaving a longer pause for dramatic effect, or longer silences to distinguish different voices where maybe there aren't dialogue tags, that sort of thing.
Record with your Body
This prompt can be taken a couple different ways. You could use your body to make sound effects, or, I always envisioned this prompt as the reader moving as they speak. Like, making the motions or putting their body in the same positions as the characters they're representing. For example, maybe running around or exercising for a few minutes before recording a scene where the character is out of breath; leaning forward/backwards or making hand motions with the character.
Abridge
Back in the day when audio books where on bulky/expensive media like tapes or CDs it was really common for books to be edited down so that the audio book would only be an hour or two. This prompt is about trying that with fics.

I have two possible ways of interpreting this. You could repod a story without having listened to the original podfic. Or, if you want a challenge, you can record a podfic using only the pre-existing podfic and not reading the text (I've been wanting to try this second option for forever!:P). Where you'd have to do some sort of set up where you listen to a line of the podfic, then record yourself reading it, listen some more, record some more, etc.
splice fics together
This is where you combine two fics into a single podfic. You could imply that one fic is the sequel or in the same universe as another, or you could mix and mingle two stories so they come out as one very different story.

You'd take out the "angrily" and instead convey that anger through your "No!"

What is the difference between 'Incorporate Physical Sound' and 'Incorporate Sound Effects'?

Date: 2012-05-12 09:50 pm (UTC)Harlequin is a brand of romance novels. In a fannish context, it's fics that fit the style of those romance novels. Many fandoms have run Harlequin challenges, here's a list.
Incorporate physical sound is more meant to mean physically making the sound as you record, rather than editing it in later. For example, I was recently recording podfic with

Date: 2012-08-27 05:23 am (UTC)Do you think this would count for Incorporate Verbal Effects or does is square supposed to be something totally different and I'm missing the intent behind it? (I also have Incorporate Sound Effects, but that seems like it would be for non-speaking things.)
